Senator: It won’t come to blocking the Kerch Strait
The technical ability to block the Kerch-Yenikalsky Canal for Ukrainian ships exists. Senator Sergei Tsekov stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on the initiative of the Kerch sailors who demand the release of the ship “Nord” seized by Ukrainian border guards along with its crew.
“Anything can happen, but I wouldn’t want it to come to that, because then there will be problems with passing under the Crimean Bridge. I understand the sentiments of the Kerch sailors and their solidarity with their comrades, but I think that the issue will be resolved by other methods. I would like it to be faster,” Tsekov said.
He is confident that the issue will be resolved through diplomatic channels.
“The sailors and the ship will be returned. I think we have the leverage to do that. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is already involved in this. I hope that, despite the difficult international situation for Russia, we will find support abroad. There is one agreement regarding the Sea of Azov - it is an internal sea of Russia and Ukraine. Therefore, fishing is allowed throughout the entire water area,” Tsekov said.
