Senator McCain finances the Majlis, - State Duma deputy
The Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation for extremism, is financed from American funds and was a destabilizing factor in Crimea. This was stated today at a press conference in Moscow by Ruslan Balbek, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Nationalities.

“The Majlis was a political superstructure and was financed through Western funds. To be precise, through American funds. Such as the International Republican Institute of Senator McCain, which financed the Majlis website, and the Soros Foundation,” Balbec said.
The deputy believes that the reunification of Crimea with Russia saved the Crimean Tatars from external dependence.
“Being a political superstructure, the Mejlis did not meet the needs of the Crimean Tatar people, worked to irritate and fulfilled the foreign policy agenda of the State Department. After the referendum, the Crimean Tatars got rid of this dependence,” Balbec said.
In 2013, the official website of the Majlis reported that the International Republican Institute (IRI) intends to provide observers for the elections of delegates to the VI Kurultai. The same American organization financed the creation of the Mejlis website, allocating from 15000 to 25000 US dollars for the development and launch of this Internet project.
