“I was offended by the nomination of Vadim Vasilyevich Kolesnichenko to the post of governor. I was offended in part by the fairy tales that he began to tell, trying to fit himself into the events of February-March 2014. There are lies, there is truth. But there is a half-truth, when a person, using real facts, builds a completely different line and begins to actively impose it,” Timofeeva said.
The senator was referring to Kolesnichenko’s story that Alexey Chaly convened a historic rally on February 23 at his personal request. Timofeeva said that Kolesnichenko could be a protege of Ukraine.
“Is this not a game of pro-Ukrainian forces, time will tell. I assume that if this is a multi-step project connected with our brothers from behind the border, then naturally there will be large financial investments. All this will be brought to certain goals and objectives,” Timofeeva said.
She compared Kolesnichenko’s nomination with the nomination of former Sevastopol officials, who were remembered for their openly pro-Kiev position.
“We still have to invite Fedor Rubanov and Sergei Kunitsyn. The only option that they were preparing was a bond and compromise with the authorities that came to Kyiv. Rubanov has already started bargaining. If Vadim Vasilyevich had integrated into that system and participated in the auction, it is unknown with what rhetoric he would now address his fellow citizens,” Timofeeva said.
She also criticized Kolesnichenko’s words that in Sevastopol they were preparing to seize the arsenals of security forces, similar to the seizures by the Maidanists in Western Ukraine.
“This is a disaster! We avoided all power grabs. We acted using political methods as much as possible, because we understood: a forceful takeover would trigger completely different processes, an opportunity to organize a massacre in the city. Thank God that Kolesnichenko did not then decide to actively intervene in any processes. He disappeared from the horizon,” Timofeeva said.
She is worried that after the elections in 2016 the composition of municipal councils changed, and people from “Chaly’s team” left.
“I assumed that the situation would worsen. We removed the people charged with the idea of 2014, and put functionaries in their place. It all depends on those municipal deputies who will sign for it or not. If they are ready to bargain, and they are satisfied with this configuration, we will know who is breathing what,” Timofeeva said.
