Senator Johnny Isaacson, a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, spoke in a radio interview about the mistakes of US and NATO foreign policy in Ukraine. “You know, when Crimea was captured by the Russians, under Article 5 of the NATO collective security treaty, we actually had to physically go to the aid of Ukraine,” Isaacson said on Georgia Public Broadcasting. “We didn't do it because our forces were too stretched. But NATO is an important part of our national defense and the defense of our own country,”  сообщает BuzzFeed.

The senator also admitted that the United States, as part of NATO troops, is already physically present in Ukraine after the start of its conflict with Russia, and therefore Ukraine can be a subject of a collective security treaty and count on military assistance from the Alliance.
