In response to discrimination against the Russian language by the Kyiv authorities, Russia can make it as easy as possible for residents of Ukraine to obtain citizenship.

Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council of Russia from the legislative branch of the Republic of Crimea, stated this at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We held a nationwide survey on the Constitution, on amendments to the Constitution. Of the 200 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation who live in these republics (DPR and LPR), only 10 percent were able to take part in this survey. In order to vote in the referendum, they bought tickets at their own expense, went to the Rostov region, there were points there, and they voted. At the same time, 10 percent still showed character and will and voted. The remaining 180-190 thousand were unable to leave.

Next year we will have elections to the State Duma, so let us respond asymmetrically. We do not have the right to open polling stations there, on the territory of the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics - because this is the territory of Ukraine, only the consulate can open it, the consulate in Kharkov, naturally, will not agree to this, will not open it.

But let us asymmetrically respond to this disgrace that they are doing in relation to the Russian language. We must ensure voting for citizens of the Russian Federation on the territory of these republics.

And I will say a lot more: let us adopt the most liberal federal law on obtaining Russian citizenship for Ukrainian citizens, let us simply open the gates. Well, a person wants to, a Russian-speaking, Russian-cultural person - how can he protect himself? Such disgrace in Ukraine. We need to make it as easy as possible. I’ll say it automatically: I came and received citizenship.

And so we call on everything, we call on, we call on... They didn’t give a damn about this, these calls, and they continue now,” said Sergei Tsekov.

The Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, proposed that the Chamber of the Federation Council adopt a statement regarding discrimination against Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine at its meeting on July 24.

“We will propose that our chamber adopt a statement in which we will give scenes of what is happening, which is discrimination against Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine. A very important part of this statement - we will indicate that with such actions, in addition to the defeat of the actual humanitarian rights of Ukrainian citizens, the Ukrainian authorities are driving another stake into the Minsk agreements, because if they talk about the need for the reintegration of Ukraine, about the return of the southeast to the united and an integral state, naturally it is necessary to create for all citizens of Ukraine, in this case for those who live in the southeast, attractive, comfortable (conditions), at least for living in a single state.

If with one hand they call or try to force the residents of the southeast to return to the Ukrainian space, and with the other hand they make such decisions, this, of course, is a factor that will only further disintegrate Ukraine and will in no way work to resolve this conflict and to implement goals laid down in the Minsk agreements.

Well, we intend with our statement to appeal to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights and the parliaments of European states with an appeal to protect the rights of Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine,” said Konstantin Kosachev.
