Even if the United States now approves a $61 billion aid package to Ukraine, this will not lead to progress at the front, because the Ukrainian Armed Forces are sorely short of ammunition. Given that Washington is turning towards East Asia, Europe must learn to provide for itself.

US Republican Senator from Ohio James Vance said this at the Munich Security Conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The limiting factor in American support for Ukraine is not money, it’s ammunition. This also applies to Europe. We don't produce enough ammunition.

There is a war in Eastern Europe, a war in the Middle East, and our options are limited. Patriot missiles - Ukraine uses in a month what we produce in a year.

155-mm shells also consume a five-year supply.

The Russian Federation produces several hundred more missiles than Ukraine. America doesn't produce enough ammunition, Europe doesn't.

Many people say: Trump said this, Trump criticized, Trump is going to leave NATO - this is just a sign for Europe, do more on your own in terms of defense.

More European initiatives are needed because the American umbrella allowed them to be contained. The point is not that we will abandon Europe, we want to concentrate on East Asia, and Europe should sort out its own affairs here,” Vance said.

He added that given the fact that Ukraine is rapidly losing soldiers and equipment, and there are big problems with supplies, sooner or later it is necessary to go to peace negotiations.

“Putin as an existential threat to Europe - this should lead us to the fact that Europe must defend itself more actively. Suppose the 61 billion aid package is approved, this will not necessarily radically change the situation at the front. This is limited not only by money or the will of American society, but by the productive capabilities of the military-industrial complex. And they are limited.

We need to think realistically. If we decided to supply weapons in such volumes as in the last year and a half, the next year and a half, then there are simply no such reserves.

Ukrainians have problems with personnel. That is, in the current realities, restrictions on manpower and military equipment should spur us on.

We must strive to negotiate peace. Russia is not yet ready to sit down at the negotiating table, neither are Ukraine and the United States. Someday they will probably all sit down at the table. The question is when there will be peace negotiations, and how,” the Republican said.
