Senator: The term “annexation” is not applicable to the Crimean events - neither in essence nor in form
The concept of “annexation,” which Russia’s enemies love to use when applying it to the events of the Crimean Spring, has nothing to do with it even in the legal sense, not to mention the historical one.
Moreover, there was neither war with Ukraine nor deaths of residents of the peninsula.
Alexey Kondratyev, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Sanctions are punishment. Why are we being punished? You will notice how lies not only become all-encompassing in the media, but also how they try to push through political decisions on the basis of these lies. We are talking about international law, here is a simple example.
From the point of view of international law, the term “annexation” is interpreted as the occupation of a specific territory by the armed forces of an opposing state that is at war with another state. Ask yourself the question: when did Ukraine declare war on us or did we declare war on Ukraine? I’ll ask you a question, how many people died during the Crimean spring?” Kondratyev emphasized.
He also added that information about certain events is presented to representatives of Europe one-sidedly, because they have not even heard about the tragic events of May 2 in Odessa.
“But as soon as Italian parliamentarians make surprised eyes when they are told what happened in Odessa on May 2, 2014, where is the media coverage in Europe? You see how one-sided the information is presented,” the senator noted.
