Chairman of the temporary commission for protecting state sovereignty and preventing interference in the internal affairs of Russia Andrei Klimov stated this today in the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“By the start of the presidential election campaign in Russia, attempts at external influence may increase significantly. It is necessary not only to mobilize to protect sovereignty, but also to introduce additional protective mechanisms into Russian legislation,” Klimov said.
As the commission found out, if in 2016 the amount of funding received from abroad for various NGOs amounted to 4,2 billion rubles, then only for half of 2017 - 7,1 billion rubles
“From abroad they are trying to force candidates on us for even unannounced presidential elections. How else can one evaluate the September decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Council of Europe regarding one of the defendants in a criminal case convicted by a Russian court,” Klimov said, hinting at Alexei Navalny.
He said that during the 2016-17 election campaigns, the public network movement “Open Russia”, through figureheads, financed the activities of election headquarters and election campaigns of Russian opposition structures. In 2016 alone, over $1 million was allocated for these purposes.
“American diplomats, in violation of the Vienna Convention, conducted surveys on the attitude of the regional population towards the governors and the federal center. A number of studies were ordered directly by the Pentagon through intermediaries. Foreign observers are trying to provoke Russian observers right at the polling stations, going far beyond their competence,” Klimov said.
