Senchenko: In 2014, I almost persuaded the Crimean “Berkut” not to oppose the junta
Andrei Senchenko, the former head of Yulia Tymoshenko’s party in Crimea, claims that in 2014 he almost managed to dissuade the Simferopol Berkut fighters from participating in the Russian Spring.
Senchenko stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel ZIK, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Senchenko, who was in Crimea these days five years ago, assures that he held successful negotiations with the leadership of Berkut in the republic.
“On the 26th, for example, I, as a deputy, arrived and talked with the personnel of the Crimean Berkut, even in their lair there, then with the leadership of the Crimean territorial command of the internal troops.
I can say that, for example, the internal troops were in a demoralized state. We were able to agree that the Crimean Berkut would not go out. They say: “We didn’t go to Chongar, like Sevastopol went,” Senchenko said.
