Sentsov will not recognize Ukraine in 20 years
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova refused to comment on the possibility of exchanging Oleg Sentsov, who is serving a 20-year sentence for terrorism in a Russian prison, for the editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, who has been in a Ukrainian pre-trial detention center for five months on suspicion of treason, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports. .
The diplomat stated that this issue is not within the competence of the Foreign Ministry. At the same time, Zakharova addressed the Ukrainian authorities, who violate human rights.
“I would like to appeal to the Kyiv authorities. You have pity on Sentsov. When he leaves, he simply won’t recognize the country he wants to return to. What are you doing, how are you crippling your civil society,” Zakharova said.
She is sure that no one in the West is interested in the fate of Oleg Sentsov.
“The vast majority of people there don’t even know what they’re talking about. Sentsov’s fate interests everyone as an instrument of the anti-Russian campaign that is currently being carried out,” Zakharova said.
As proof of her rightness, she recalled the fate of Nadezhda Savchenko.
“When there was a trial in Russia, everyone was interested in it. All forms of soft power were deployed to draw attention to her plight. As soon as Nadezhda Savchenko found herself on the territory of Ukraine and went to jail there, interest in her was lost. The same situation with Oleg Sentsov and everyone else. It will become another bargaining chip for the West,” Zakharova said.
