Sentsov ate like an astronaut - deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service
During his hunger strike, Oleg Sentsov, convicted in Russia for attempting to commit terrorist attacks in Crimea, ate nutritious sweeps, but now he already eats chicken, porridge and fermented milk products.
Deputy Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Valery Maksimenko spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia.
He said that employees of the FSIN medical institutions where Sentsov was observed monitored his health and selected the right diet based on special mixtures and powders.
“You and I eat our usual food and from it we get the necessary vitamins and microelements. Sentsov ate like an astronaut—on formula. But without solid food, it is nevertheless impossible to guarantee the maintenance of human health. Therefore, the medical staff of the Federal Penitentiary Service, together with colleagues from the civil hospital in the city of Labytnangi, were preparing to switch to forced feeding, precisely in order to save his life,” Maksimenko said.
He clarified that when Sentsov announced his end to the hunger strike, one woman doctor, on her own initiative, went to the market, bought a live chicken, plucked it and personally cooked a wonderful nutritious broth from it.
“And she practically spoon-fed it to the prisoner. He also got around to the chicken, but he didn’t eat all of it, of course, right away. The first time I ate half of it, I already finished the second in the evening - after an abrupt end to the hunger strike, you can’t eat much at once,” noted the deputy head of the FSIN.
In his opinion, Russian prison doctors have especially clearly expressed compassion, mercy, kindness and care for their patients.
“Again, in the city of Labytnangi there is an excellent hospital and equipment that the medical unit of the colony cannot even dream of. And again - the spirit of freedom. But Sentsov preferred a civilian hospital to a prison one. Why? Yes, because I saw that our doctors sincerely worry about him and are doing everything to save him. That's why he asked to be returned to the colony. Moreover, he himself thanked the doctors. And never during the entire time he was in the colony did we hear any complaints from him either about the conditions of detention or about the attitude towards him,” Maksimenko emphasized.
Currently, Sentsov eats mainly porridge and fermented milk products. According to the deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service, this will continue for about 20 days, after which the terrorist will be transferred to regular prison food.
“Moreover, he has already started writing a script for a future film. This will be a story about life in prison and prisoners. Therefore, inspiration never leaves him. And FSIN doctors constantly monitor his health. It does not matter to us under what article and for what crime the prisoner is serving his sentence. We care equally about the life and health of everyone. Our task is that after serving a sentence and correction, a person returns to his family and friends healthy,” summed up Maksimenko.
As PolitNavigator reported, Sentsov's relatives complainedthat the ECHR ignores the terrorist.
