Sentsov “fit in” for the release of the killer of an Italian reporter
Oleg Sentsov, released from serving a sentence in the Russian Federation on charges of terrorism, joined the participants in the “Free Markiv” action dedicated to National Guardsman Vitaly Markiv, sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of an Italian photojournalist, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The other day I read the materials that are available on this case, so I came here because I think that he is not guilty. I understand Italian citizens, I understand the family of the deceased journalist Rocchelli, they want someone’s “blood”, retribution for the death of a loved one, but this is definitely not Vitaly... This is clearly a political matter, and he is a political prisoner. He needs the same support as our other guys who are in prisons in Donbass and the Russian Federation... Freedom for Vitaly Markiv,” Sentsov said during an ultra-right rally near the Italian Embassy in Kyiv.
In October, a jury in the Italian city of Pavia published the motivational part of the sentence for National Guardsman Vitaly Markiv, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
For several years now, 30-year-old National Guardsman Vitaly Markiv, with dual citizenship of Ukraine and Italy, has been in custody in a prison in Italy. On June 30, 2017, Italian law enforcement officers arrested him at Bologna airport when he and his wife came on vacation to visit their mother - she lives in the Marche region.
