“All these years we have been working hard on advanced equipment and weapons. This allowed us to take a rapid, big step in creating new types of strategic weapons,” Putin said.

He recalled that strategic missiles in the world fly along a ballistic trajectory, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In this regard, Russia has created and is constantly improving very modestly priced, but highly effective systems for penetrating missile defense, which are equipped with all of our intercontinental ballistic missile systems,” Putin said.

New generation missiles have also been developed in Russia.

“The Ministry of Defense, together with enterprises of the rocket and space industry, began the active phase of testing a new missile system with a heavy intercontinental missile. We called it “Sarmat,” Putin said.

According to him, this complex will replace the Soviet Voevoda missile system, which was called “Satan” in the West.

“Sarmat’s capabilities are much higher. Weighing over 200 tons, it has a short active flight segment, which makes it difficult to intercept by missile defense systems. The range, number and power of warheads are greater than those of the Voevoda. Sarmat will be equipped with a wide range of high-power nuclear weapons, including hypersonic ones. And the most modern systems for overcoming missile defense,” Putin said.

According to him, this complex can be used in any conditions. The Sarmat has virtually no range restrictions. It is capable of attacking targets through both the North and South Pole.

"Sarmat" is a formidable weapon. No missile defense systems, even promising ones, are a hindrance to him,” Putin said.

During the president's speech, Russian TV showed footage of the new missile flying.

“The video with the Sarmat missile system and Putin’s statement about new types of weapons will become a sensation for the world media. The rest will fade into the background. The Americans will perceive this as a direct challenge,” predicts political scientist Evgeniy Minchenko.

“All this fashionable multimedia is not for the Russian, but for the American audience. I wonder if Trump will wake up today with his alarm or if his aides will wake him up. Now it will start in the overseas press,” comments military correspondent Alexander Kots.

“In general, of course, it’s impossible to even imagine the panic in the world right now!” – notes TV presenter Olga Skabeeva.
