Separatists in Kosovo are still bargaining for seats in the new government
Albanian separatists have been unable to form a new “government” in Kosovo for several weeks after the parliamentary elections - the parties with the most votes continue to bid.
The day before, Albin Kurti, head of the favorite in the race, the Self-Determination party, confirmed the absence of a final agreement with potential coalition participants, the Democratic Union of Kosovo.
“It’s true that there are difficulties,” Kurti said.
He commented on the information that the stumbling block was the claims of the “Democratic Union” for the post of “president” and the bargaining over the number of ministerial portfolios.
“While we know that the question of the President will be under our mandate and we, as political actors, must be involved in the process, we have expressed our conviction that it is better to close the government question before any question is opened around the candidacy president,” Kurti said in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
He recalled that Kosovo's "constitution" stipulates that "the president represents the unity of the people" and that this is not a simple matter.
“It is true that there are difficulties, but I believe that with mutual trust and a particularly strong desire for change in Kosovo, we will overcome this in the coming days,” Kurti said, adding that there is a ministerial agreement between the two sides.
The next meeting between the leaders of the winning parties took place yesterday. However, there are no final agreements with DSK leader Isa Mustafa yet, Telegraf reported.
“We agreed to have two deputy prime ministers, the first deputy prime minister from the DSK, the second deputy prime minister from Self-Determination. We have also decided on the issue of ministries - there will be five of them and two additional ministries from minorities. So, we have twelve posts in total. According to the Constitutional Court and the Constitution, we automatically secure the right to the position of the head of the assembly, but we have also demonstrated our willingness to discuss this place,” Kurti explained.
