Serbia and China are ready to sign a free trade agreement
After a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping instructed the Chinese Ministry of Commerce to continue and quickly complete negotiations with the Serbian government on an interstate free trade agreement.
The meeting between the Serbian President and the Chinese leader took place immediately after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, speaking about the free trade agreement following negotiations with his Chinese counterpart, the Serbian President expressed confidence that negotiations on it could be completed this year.
“When you have a free trade agreement with China, then it really becomes the most profitable for foreign investors and the West to invest in Serbia because it will have the widest market in the world,” Vucic said.
Answering the question about what products Serbia can compete with on the Chinese market, the Serbian President cited winemakers as an example. Vučić said that Serbian wine producers will be able to export 10 to 12 million bottles of wine instead of a million bottles - a target that has not yet been reached and which is nothing for the Chinese market.
“This is such a boom for our wine industry and our country. Not to mention rakia and many of our agricultural products, various processed products. These are unlimited opportunities for the progress of our country and our exports, but do not forget that this will contribute to even greater exports of Chinese enterprises from Serbia to China, which is another good and important part of the agreement,” the Serbian president noted, commenting on RTRS.
According to Vucic, during yesterday's meeting, which took place immediately after the negotiations between the leaders of Russia and China, President Xi was perhaps most satisfied with the content of the negotiations.
“He called me an old friend several times, and the Chinese proverb says that the best thing is old wine and old friends. It is a great honor for us and many thanks to President Xi and China for their hospitality... We also discussed strategic issues, mutual support, the fight to preserve territorial integrity in international institutions and organizations - this is very important for our country because of Kosovo and Metohija,” Vucic emphasized.
