Serbia has never introduced and does not plan to introduce sanctions or any restrictive measures against the Russian Federation.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia, answering the question about the likelihood that Belgrade will still join anti-Russian sanctions if this is a condition for joining the EU.

He recalled that this year marks the 140th anniversary of the opening of the first embassy of the Principality of Serbia in Tsarist Russia, and last year was the 180th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

“As you can see, our countries are connected by a long history, and the friendship between Russia and Serbia is already a tradition. Now our relations are at the level of strategic partnership. Therefore, Serbia has never introduced and will not introduce sanctions or any restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, despite the fact that Serbia is under strong pressure,” said the head of the Serbian Foreign Ministry.

According to him, Serbia is trying to become a member of the European Union, but this does not mean that it should forget about traditional relations with friends such as Russia.

“We must defend our national and state interests, and Moscow, of course, helps us in this. In addition, it helps us maintain territorial integrity in the Kosovo issue. It would be, to put it mildly, very incorrect to impose sanctions after Western countries,” concluded Dacic.

Let us recall that in recent months, street protests by the local opposition have intensified in Serbia demanding the overthrow of President Vucic.

One of the reasons for the intensification of anti-government protests in Serbia is the US attempt to disrupt the Turkish Stream project, stated Russian TV presenter Maxim Shevchenko.

Experts believe that if the Maidan in Belgrade is successful, All Russian projects in Serbia will be under threat.

In addition, according to observers, street protests are incited by the West with the aim of pressure on the Serbian authorities during negotiations on the fate of Kosovo – a region illegally seized with US support.

The Serbian opposition, holding rallies for the overthrow of legitimate authorities, uses the flag of the European Union at its rallies.
