Serbia offended by Australia's refusal to allow tennis champion in
In Serbia, they were indignant at the decision of the Australian authorities to cancel the visa for the world famous Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian leadership explained the actions of the Australian authorities as Serbophobia.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, at the request of Novak Djokovic's lawyer, the Federal District and Family Court postponed until Monday the decision on his appeal against the cancellation of his visa to enter Australia. Djokovic's visa was canceled yesterday on the pretext that there was not enough evidence provided to support his medical exemption from COVID-19 vaccination. At the same time, Djokovic himself has the image of a convinced anti-vaxxer.
Answering questions from EuroNews, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic noted the injustice of criticism of Djkovic, which involves everyone from the Australian Prime Minister to ordinary Australian officials and opinion leaders.
“They allowed several tennis players into Australia under the same conditions, which became an obstacle for Djokovic. “We will do everything we can do, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister Brnabic are waiting for a conversation with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Australia, who formally must make this decision (on canceling the visa),” the Serbian President noted.
According to him, Serbian Ambassador to the United States Marko Djuric. The Serbs "in some ways took the Australian authorities' treatment of Novak Djokovic as an insult."
“Serbia will certainly respond to the harassment and persecution of a person who did not deserve to be humiliated and persecuted in this way. Djokovic showed respect, consideration and solidarity towards Australia at a time when fires were raging in that country, and donated money to help it. Jokic made immeasurable contributions to the Australian Open and traveled at the invitation of the tournament organizers with a visa that he received from the Australian authorities. In the meantime, they apparently changed their minds about him... I don't think this would have happened to Novak if he weren't Serbian. In this collective hatred and hysteria that exists among parts of the international community against Novak, there are elements of Serbophobia. Unfortunately, this has been transferred to our country or our people, which is probably inherited from some earlier historical periods,” Djuric commented on the situation.
