Serbia confirms arms supply to Armenia
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic confirmed on Wednesday that his country had sent weapons to Armenia.
This was reported by the Turkish news agency Anadolu Ajansı, a PolitNaviator correspondent reports.
“I can’t say the name of the company. Two shipments of weapons and rifles were delivered in May and June. Its cost is less than a million euros,” Ljajic said.
He stressed that Serbia does not want to harm relations with Azerbaijan. Ljajic noted that there are no sanctions imposed against Armenia by international institutions.
“It is extremely difficult to reject a request unless there is official sanction,” he said.
Earlier this week, Serbia's charge d'affaires in Baku, Danica Vejnovic, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on the grounds that Serbia was sending weapons to Armenia when clashes broke out on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalef Halefov said that Azerbaijan has reliable and verified information that a large amount of ammunition, consisting of mortars and shells of various calibers, was sent from Serbia to Armenia, and Azerbaijan is awaiting an explanation from Serbia.
