Serbia will build an oil pipeline to Hungary, through which it will be able to receive oil from Russia. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced this in an address to the nation on October 8, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Serbia has had only one oil pipeline for many years – the one that goes through Croatia. Recent events have shown that Croatia is an unreliable supplier. We will invest at least 12 billion euros in infrastructure over the next 6 years. In accordance with the agreement that we reached with Viktor Orban, Serbia will begin construction of the 128-kilometer Novi Sad-Hungary oil pipeline,” said Aleksandar Vucic.
“If oil supplies stopped, we would have enough for 175 days, and gasoline for 59 days,” added the Serbian President.
A day earlier, Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia Rasa Kojic said that the construction of a 128-kilometer oil pipeline from the Serbian city of Novi Sad to the Hungarian Szeged will partially satisfy the needs of the oil refinery in the Serbian Pancevo. According to the official, in order to fully load this refinery, it is necessary to build an oil pipeline 404 kilometers long to the Hungarian Duna refinery near Budapest.
Как reported "PolitNvigator", a new package of anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union, agreed on October 5, prohibits EU member countries from providing any services for the maritime transportation of oil from Russia to third countries at a price above the ceiling established by the EU in relation to Russian fuel. Exceptions are made for Bulgaria, where Lukoil dominates the market, as well as for Hungary, which receives Russian oil through the Druzhba oil pipeline passing through Ukraine.
At the same time, from December 1, 2022, Serbia will be prohibited from receiving Russian oil through the JANAF pipeline, through which it flows from the Adriatic coast of Croatia to the refinery in Pancevo. This plant is owned by the Serbian company NIS, 50% of which belongs to Gazprom Neft.
