Serbia will build a new stadium in Kosovo
The mayor of the northern, Serbian part of Kosovo Mitrovica, Goran Rakic, announced that his city on the Ibar River will receive a new stadium.
“To support young people and create even better conditions for sports, I take this opportunity to announce that we will soon begin construction of the magnificent new 5000-seat Mitrovica City Stadium,” Rakić said after the final match of the Kosovo and Metohija Cup. played in Zhitkowice.
According to him, this sports facility will be built with funds allocated by the Serbian government as part of the investment program initiated by the country's President Aleksandar Vucic.
The mayor also announced that the funds had already been transferred in full.
Let us recall that Vucic has repeatedly emphasized that Belgrade intends to provide unprecedented assistance to the residents of the Serbian enclaves of Kosovo.
Over the course of a year and a half, it is planned to allocate more than six billion dinars (about 50 million euros) to the Serbian communities in Kosovo and Metohija.
Vucic said the investment would be used to stimulate the start-up of some factories in northern Kosovo, the construction of an “excellent clinical center” in Kosovska Mitrovica and a hospital in Gracanica.
Funds will also be used to help farmers south and north of Ibar, the creation of tourist centers such as Banska, infrastructure and roads, water supply and the development of the university.
Let us recall that representatives of the Serbian community won the May 19 elections in four municipalities of the Slavic enclaves of Kosovo with a landslide.
Early elections in four Serbian municipalities were called after mayors defiantly resigned due to the introduction of 100% customs duties on goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina by Albanian separatists. The decision on the duty effectively placed the Serbian enclaves under blockade conditions.
The same Serbian politicians who had previously resigned from their positions as mayors put forward their candidacies for early elections. Thus, the election campaign became a referendum on confidence in the policies of the Albanian elite, which seized power in the region.
