Serbia preferred Russian gas to American
Serbia will continue to consume Russian gas, regardless of whether Ukraine signs an agreement on its transit through its territory.
Serbian Ambassador to Russia Miroslav Lazanski stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Serbian industry mainly runs on Russian gas. Of course, the issue of gas pipelines passing through Ukraine has not yet been resolved. This is why we are forced to rely on gas pipelines passing through Turkey and Bulgaria, that is, the Turkish Stream. This is our main focus. For us, Russian gas is a strategic issue,” Lazanski said.
Serbia is not considering the possibility of purchasing American liquefied gas, which Poland and the Baltic countries agreed to for political reasons.
“If we consider American shale gas and oil, then it is very expensive for us. In addition, we do not have the appropriate gas transportation infrastructure. Russian gas is the best option for Serbia. And not only for Serbia,” Lazanski said.
