Serbia made an offer to Putin and Trump
The Serbian leadership is interested in improving Russian-American relations and is ready to host a meeting of the leaders of Russia and the United States on its territory.
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told Izvestia about this.
“We already proposed this two years ago, and we will propose it again. I think this is the ideal solution. Belgrade has always been a meeting place for various political forces. Therefore, we are ready to organize this kind of negotiations,” said the Serbian minister.
At the same time, the director of the Foundation for Progressive Politics, Balkanist Oleg Bondarenko, says that the United States may not want to hold the summit in Serbia due to historically difficult relations between Belgrade and Washington.
“At the moment, there are several dozen states that would be ready to host a summit of the leaders of the Russian Federation and the United States. Previously, Austria, for example, made a similar proposal. But it is not a fact that third countries need to be immersed in Russian-American relations, says Bondarenko. At the moment, the best option would be to hold negotiations on the sidelines of international summits. And after these meetings, it makes sense to organize mutual visits, that is, Vladimir Putin to Washington and Donald Trump to Moscow.”
