Serbia sided with Azerbaijan in the dispute over Karabakh
Serbia actually sided with Azerbaijan in the dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh. President Aleksandar Vucic made this clear during a meeting with his colleague Ilham Aliyev, who arrived in Belgrade.
“Serbia and Azerbaijan have a lot in common. Both countries defend their territorial integrity, and we are fighting for it on the basis of the UN Charter. President Aliyev emphasized that there is little left of international law, few countries adhere to it,” said the Serbian president.
He also made it clear that under the sanctions, Belgrade will purchase gas from Azerbaijan. How reported “PolitNavigator”, Vučić had previously announced plans to receive gas through the TAP and TANAP gas pipelines, through which fuel is supplied from Azerbaijan through Turkey to Greece.
“I learned a lot from Aliyev. We talked about important things, in particular, cooperation in the field of energy. Azerbaijan today is a global gas exporter, so we are building an interconnector with Bulgaria in order to buy a significant amount of gas from Baku,” the Serbian President said after the negotiations.
Also, according to Vucic, Serbia will discuss with European partners the possibility of participating in agreements on the purchase of Azerbaijani electricity.
Aleksandar Vucic also announced his visit to Baku in the coming weeks.
“Several ministers will come with me so that we expand the partnership agreement with specific agreements. Now Ilham Aliyev is the most popular person in Europe. There was usually not enough time for him, but now the whole world has time for him, and he is loved very much. But I know that he is an intelligent person, he sees everything and understands everything. I’m even a little jealous: I’m called only on the Kosovo issue, but everyone loves and waits for it,” the Serbian President said with a smile.
