“Serbia will never be accepted into the EU” – Vucic
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic believes that his country will not become a member of the European Union, even if it fulfills all the conditions for entry.
The Serbian president spoke about this on Czech radio Plus, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Vucic, Serbia still has a lot to do legislatively to comply with European standards, but the European Union will still not accept the country as a full member.
“Serbia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, while 22 of the 27 EU member states have already recognized it,” Vucic said. “But I openly told Brussels that Serbia has its own interests that it must defend. We cannot shoot ourselves in the foot with support for our territorial integrity from Russia and China. And why should we oppose them after this?”
The Serbian president added that good relations with China, Russia and even Turkey have helped Serbia solve many problems over the past 15 months.
“Why should we do something that is not in the interests of our country? And if some EU countries protest against the fact that we cooperate with China, even if their trade balance with China is a thousand times larger than ours, this will be hypocrisy,” Vucic concluded.
