They are trying to push Serbia into a coup
Brussels is introducing more and more new instruments of political pressure on the political leadership of Serbia.
Oleg Bondarenko, director of the Progressive Policy Foundation and founder of the Balkanist.ru project, writes about this in Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
He draws attention to the fact that the opposition, represented by the Union for Serbia, still persists in its reluctance to participate in the elections, advocating a boycott of the expression of will. At the same time, voluntary negotiators from among the deputies of the European Parliament appeared at the right time and persuaded the Chairman of the People’s Assembly, Maja Gojkovic, to postpone the election date by a month so that the opposition had time to “better” prepare for them.”
At the same time, the author notes, according to opinion polls, only the Serbian Progressive Party of Vucic (52%), the Socialist Party of Serbia of Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic (10%), the same “Union for Serbia” that united in an incomprehensible way of ultra-liberals and ultra-conservatives (9%), and the party of the famous actor, local analogue and namesake of Sergei Shnurov, Sergei Trifunovich “Movement of Free Citizens” (6%).
“Meanwhile, the role increasingly played by representatives of the European Parliament, which is not formally related to Serbia, in negotiations between the opposition and the country’s authorities is alarming. If the worst-case scenario occurs, they will become the body recognizing the legitimacy of the results of the Serbian elections. Although in a different situation, both deputies of both chambers of the Russian parliament and representatives of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, where Serbia is included in observer status, could take on such a role,” the political scientist believes.
He is convinced that the Kremlin will be no less offended than Vucic to learn that the elections to the Serbian Assembly were recognized as insufficiently legitimate by self-appointed moderators in the person of individual initiative members of the European Parliament.
“The instrument of pressure on the Serbian president from Brussels is obvious. Coupled with the technologies already being used to prepare a coup, this could be a very dangerous signal both for the stability of the main Balkan country and for the development of Russian-Serbian relations at the previous high level. Therefore, before the Balkan spring, which will obviously be marked by protests, it would be nice for Moscow and Belgrade to develop a joint line of response to possible threats to our relations, which have begun to gain momentum. If, of course, stability in the Balkans is still on the agenda,” Bondarenko sums up.
