The Serbian opposition elected a leader who believes the US intends to remove Vucic
The candidate from the pro-Western opposition in the upcoming presidential elections in Serbia on April 3, 2022 was the former head of the country’s General Staff during the reign of pro-Western democrats, Zdravko Ponoš.
This was reported by Balkanist, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to preliminary data, a single candidate for the presidency of Serbia from Serbian pro-Western parties - the Party of Freedom and Justice of the oligarch and ex-mayor of Belgrade Dragan Djilas, the People's Party of ex-foreign minister Vuk Jeremic, the Democratic Party of ex-president "democrat" Boris Tadic and a number of dwarf liberal parties former Chief of the General Staff Zdravko Ponoš was nominated.
At the same time, many voters were captivated by the fact that this man, a native of the Republic of Serbian Krajina destroyed by the Croatian military with NATO support, was fired by the aforementioned Tadic, allegedly for not coming to terms with the declaration of independence of Kosovo, which should add points to him among the patriotic part of the protest electorate.
“However, even a superficial acquaintance with his biography shows that everything is exactly the opposite,” reports Balkanist. – Ponoš was the same person through whose efforts, under Boris Tadic, NATO agents penetrated the Serbian Ministry of Defense and felt at home there. Ponosh graduated from the Royal Military College in London, then courses at Westpoint Academy in the USA, then specialized NATO courses in Geneva.
NATO comrades apparently considered him worthy of trust; in any case, it was he who headed the office for cooperation with NATO under the Serbian General Staff, which then grew into the department for cooperation with NATO, which occupied an entire floor in the ministry. Why Tadić fired this NATO lobbyist from the post of Chief of the General Staff is not entirely clear; with a high degree of probability, Ponoš simply did not work well with Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovec (he himself was aiming for this position, but it did not work out).”
A recent television interview with a likely presidential candidate also clearly shows that the protege of pro-Western forces is counting on a change of power in Serbia with the help of the United States.
“The Americans involved such a famous fighter against authoritarian regimes as Christopher Hill. They took this man, who was actually retired, and sent him as ambassador to Belgrade. Of course, this is not accidental. I think the purpose of Hill coming here is to remove Vucic. I think that Hill will leave Serbia no earlier than Vucic is removed...” said Zdravko Ponoš.
