The Serbian opposition is losing supporters - boycotting the elections no longer attracts anyone
The next, 61st, street rally of the Serbian pro-Western opposition in Belgrade was even smaller than the previous ones, traditionally held on Saturdays.
Observers attribute this to the fact that a split occurred in the ranks of the opposition due to the disagreement of some Maidan activists with the idea of boycotting the upcoming parliamentary election campaign.
The route of the opposition march traditionally included Gosteleradio “as the symbol and center of media darkness in Serbia” - Maidan activists repeatedly threatened to seize the editorial office by force, demanding airtime on TV.
Speaking outside the television studio, the former mayor of Belgrade, media tycoon Dragan Djilas, who heads the opposition Union for Serbia, promised not to abandon the idea of boycotting the elections.
“We promised that we would not participate in such false elections, and we kept this promise,” Djilas said.
“As God, I ask you, on election day, stay home, do not go to local, republican and other elections, no matter what you hear! The only correct path is the path of a total boycott. And if you want change, you should all stay at home,” said People’s Party leader Vuk Jeremic.
Party leaders adopted a joint resolution on the importance of the boycott. In it, they declare in advance the new government of Serbia “illegitimate” and threaten to “fight it with all kinds of resistance and civil disobedience.”
According to the latest published poll conducted by the American National Democratic Institute (NDI) with the participation of USAID, support for the opposition was only 6% overall. At the same time, the popularity of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, led by the country’s leader, is more than 50%.
The European Union insists on the participation of the Serbian opposition in the elections.
At the same time, in the power of Serbia, as PolitNavigator reported, came up with an effective way to neutralize the opposition in the event of its boycott of the elections.
