The Serbian opposition has split once again

The collapse of the pro-Western opposition movement in Serbia is becoming increasingly clear. Last weekend, no more than 100 people took part in a “big protest” in the large center of Kragujevac. There was a little more participation in shares in the capital, Belgrade. The protesters proceeded from the Moscow Hotel to the building of the state media holding RTS. Because of a small group of protesters, central streets were again blocked, much to the displeasure of city residents.

Maidan activists’ threats to set up a large tent city near the presidential palace were not realized either. Initially, the opposition threatened to occupy the entire Pioneer Park and nearby streets. However, in the end, the leaders of the “Union for Serbia” Dragan Djilas and Boško Obradović were able to stake out the place with the only tent that stands empty.

All this clearly makes the leaders of the motley opposition union, which includes about 30 different parties and organizations, nervous.

The leader of one of the Dveri parties, part of the Maidan alliance, Boško Obradović, decided to carry out a “purge”, finding insufficiently persistent oppositionists: he demanded that two deputies, Natasha Vuckovic and Gordana, be expelled from the Union for Serbia bloc and from the Democratic Party (DP). Čomić, who took part in the work of the Serbian parliamentary committee. Obradovic assessed their behavior as a violation of the coalition decision to boycott parliament, which was signed by the leaders of the Union.

“Deputies of the Doors Party will continue to boycott all sessions of the National Assembly in the future, including plenums and committees. I personally believe that deputies who do not respect the Agreement with the People should no longer belong to the parties that signed it,” Obradovic told N1 TV.

One of the “accused”, Natasha Vuckovic, critically assessed the general situation in the opposition ranks. According to her, there is a “smoldering misunderstanding” among the leaders of the Maidan. She expressed disagreement with the decision of the party boss, explaining that each parliamentarian must decide for himself how and when to take part in the work of the Assembly.

And her colleague Čomić wrote on her Twitter account:

“I have déjà vu: I am being told whether I should vote or not, “by a call from the party” - directly or through public opinion.”

Deputy Balsa Bozovic spoke in defense of his colleagues, emphasizing that sanctions for expressing one’s opinion are absurd.

Analyzing the turmoil in the opposition ranks, political scientist Dejan Vuk Stankovic said that the contradictions in the motley alliance of opponents of the government are becoming more and more noticeable, Informer writes.

“Boskov’s interference in personnel policy is a kind of price for this party’s entry into the Union. This is a diverse coalition for which there is no common position on any issue. Obradovic could create a split within the Democratic Party with this attitude. Behind Obradovic is Djilas, who is a fierce opponent of the democrats and the same Vučković, who oppose the grotesque “revolutionary idea” professed by Djilas along with Obradovic, Jeremić, supported by part of the Twitter community, as well as random morally blind people from the so-called critical thinker society and “independent media,” Stankovic said.
