The Serbian opposition began to justify fascism
The Serbian opposition, which criticizes Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for allegedly wanting to “surrender Kosovo,” is trying to cover up its own past with patriotic slogans.
Director of the Progressive Policy Foundation Oleg Bondarenko stated this in an interview with the Balkanist website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The ideological discourse of the Serbian opposition drifts between radical Serbian nationalism and an absolutely liberal pro-Western approach. The opposition is “flirting” with Serbian nationalism with an eye on the Western elites, and not in partnership with them, as Aleksandar Vucic builds a dialogue, but from the position of actors dependent on the West.
Let me draw your attention: the Serbian opposition itself has admitted that it is not without sin, and the current attempts at self-justification - when it shifts the blame to Aleksandar Vucic - look pathetic. All major agreements with the West were signed during Tadic's presidency. Aleksandar Vucic cannot cancel these documents, this is fraught with an open and tough confrontation with the West, which Serbia cannot afford,” the expert emphasized.
The essence of the Serbian opposition, in his opinion, reveals its attitude to the truth about the Second World War.
“We are already hearing from the opposition that preserving the memory of World War II, which Serbia and Russia are working on jointly, is “not popular.” In fact, the opposition, which is not satisfied with Aleksandar Vucic’s attention to the memory of the fallen heroes of World War II, is thus engaged in justifying fascism,” Bondarenko said.
