Serbian IT specialists from Kosovo do not give Albanian separatists a chance to have their own domain
Young Serbs from Kosovo opened a hosting company that prevents local Albanian resources from registering their own domain names online.
This was reported by the Serbian edition of Sputnik radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the resource, in an attempt to present Kosovo as an independent state, Albanian lobbyists have been unsuccessfully trying to obtain the rk and ks domains for years, but to no avail. Today, the official institutions of the separatist regime in Pristina, such as the "government" of Kosovo (www.rks-gov.net) do not have sites with their own domain names, limiting themselves to the letters “rk” in the address bar, indicating “Republic of Kosovo”.
According to Milan Marjanovic, a representative of the Digital Srbije company, Albanian lobbyists are doing everything to get their own domain. They requested it from ICANN, the global Internet corporation that originally operated under the auspices of the US government and today is a non-profit organization responsible for Internet protocols around the world, including addresses and country codes.
“Albanians cannot simply get a domain, because there are many countries in this organization that have not recognized Kosovo,” says the expert. – It includes all countries in the world that conduct any activity online. It is extremely important for Serbia that the so-called Kosovo never receives the domain “rk” or “ks”, but also that this will not happen as long as we apply pressure not only in the real but also in the virtual world.” .
The organization where Marjanovic works, together with the humanitarian organization Kosovsko Pomoravie, have found a new way to do this. After opening the first online store in the region, “Kupuj sa Kosmeta” (Buy in Kosmet - ed.), they founded a hosting company that began selling home domains (.rs, co.rs, .srb) directly from Kosovo and Metohija.
“It is very important that we attach our flag to Kosmet and the whole world can see it. Because the domains are from our territory. At the moment they can only hammer Albanian flags in Albania, they are not on our territory. When you look at the whole world, a map of the world using the Internet, when you mark this territory, then (Kosovo - ed.) looks like Serbian territory. It may be virtual, but it’s ours,” said Marjanovic.
