The Union for Serbia (USS) movement plans to resume mass protests in September. At the same time, the Serbian Progressive Party (SPP), whose leader is President Aleksandar Vucic, believes that the actions of the Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) are contrary to the interests of the country.

MP from the SPP Vladimir Djukanovic told Izvestia about this.

“This movement has virtually no support from the Serbs. We are talking about a maximum of 4% of voters, or about 2% of the country's residents. It is led by people who lost the elections and now want to destabilize the situation in the country in order to try to return to the ruling structures. At the same time, they are ready to use any methods. Their demands are absurd, so we do not intend to make any concessions or negotiations with the leaders of this movement,” Djukanovic said.

In turn, Balkanist and director of the Progressive Policy Foundation Oleg Bondarenko has no doubt that an escalation of the situation in the country can be expected in the fall, but he is confident that official Belgrade will still be able to localize the protests.

“Of course, everyone cannot agree with the policies of Aleksandar Vucic and his party, but one way or another, the president’s rating consistently exceeds 50%. In addition, Serbia's economic indicators are growing. Meanwhile, in the opposition movement itself there is a serious split between specific leaders. For example, one can trace the confrontation between the former mayor of Belgrade, Dragan Djilas, and the ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vuk Jeremic, who are considered the main figures of the current opposition. One way or another, the authorities need to prepare for the possibility of serious provocations,” says Bondarenko.

At the same time, a deputy from the Serbian Radical Party, a member of the national delegation to PACE, Aleksandar Seselj, says that his political force largely disagrees with the actions of the administration of Aleksandar Vucic.

“However, escalating the situation and street protests are not a solution to the problem. Moreover, this part of the opposition does not offer any clear alternative to the policies of the ruling circles. Moreover, we are sure that their actions are supervised by Western political strategists,” Seselj believes.

As PolitNavigator reported, the Serbian opposition, which has been demonstrating its inability to organize mass protests for several months, decided to resort to hooligan actions.
