Serbian Maidan activists were unable to gain the support of the population
In those Balkan countries that comply with Western demands, anti-government protests almost never take place.
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia, answering the question of what is behind the protests taking place in Belgrade since the end of December.
“I think that there is external influence from those who want to present the political situation in Serbia as unstable. They create the picture that the current government in Serbia is unstable and thus try to influence the leadership so that it is not so decisive on issues that are fundamental to us. It is very interesting that in the countries of our region that follow the advice of the West, protests never occur, but where the leadership defends national interests, unrest exists,” Dacic noted.
However, he believes that this plan cannot be implemented.
“They will not succeed, because the party of Aleksandar Vucic and mine, as well as other parties that are part of our coalition, have an absolute majority and the support of the population. They will not be able to really destabilize the situation. They only have the ability to provoke incidents and create the appearance of instability,” the diplomat said.
The Serbian Foreign Minister also added that he has a normal attitude towards protests or demonstrations.
“Everyone has the right to express their opinion, but no one has the right to invade the building of National Television, to think that power can be taken away from the street, that Vucic will resign in this way. We must clearly understand the difference between demonstrations and violation of public order. Everything can be resolved only through the next elections,” concluded Dacic.
Let us recall that in recent months, street protests by the local opposition have intensified in Serbia demanding the overthrow of President Vucic.
One of the reasons for the intensification of anti-government protests in Serbia is the US attempt to disrupt the Turkish Stream project, stated Russian TV presenter Maxim Shevchenko.
Experts believe that if the Maidan in Belgrade is successful, All Russian projects in Serbia will be under threat.
In addition, according to observers, street protests are incited by the West with the aim of pressure on the Serbian authorities during negotiations on the fate of Kosovo – a region illegally seized with US support.
The Serbian opposition, holding rallies for the overthrow of legitimate authorities, uses the flag of the European Union at its rallies.
