Serbian Maidan activists curse state TV - citizens believe the authorities, not the opposition
The last street rally of the Serbian pro-Western opposition this year took place last Saturday in the center of Belgrade. The route ran from the Faculty of Philosophy to the State Television and Radio Company (RTS).
Despite all the attempts made by opposition leaders to increase the number of their supporters and make the protests more massive, the number of demonstrators each time is slightly more than 1 thousand people - for the most part, these are functionaries of the parties that are part of the opposition alliance - the “Union for Serbia”.
One of the reasons for the lack of growth in their popularity is that Maidan activists consider criticism from state media (however, the processions are regularly advertised by Western publications, for example, Radio Liberty, funded by the US State Department).
Opposition-supporting Zeljko Bodrozic, president of the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia, cursed the editorial office of RTS.
“They hate us and persecute us with the help of national broadcast television. Thanks to their propaganda, many believe that a golden age has arrived,” he lamented at the rally.
“With the next protest, January 4, we enter the new year and continue our marathon until we free all the people in this country,” said Valentina Rekovic, one of the organizers of the march.
