Serbian Maidan activists tried to block state TV
The pro-Western opposition Union for Serbia made another attempt on Friday to block the work of the studio of the state Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS) - the Maidan activists do not like the way the TV crews cover their initiatives and street actions.
Today's picket was unauthorized. However, the opposition was able to gather only a handful of people for the rally. A total of 123 people were recorded, and they were divided into three groups, which were located near different entrances to the building.
One of the leaders of the Union for Serbia, Vuk Jeremic, admitted when announcing the start of the rally that the opposition did not receive permission from the police because it violated the notification deadline.
It is interesting that the Maidan activists unfurled a banner with an appeal to television crews, translated into English for Western media: “It’s your choice – Vucic or democracy!”
The RTS team issued an official statement in which they compared the attempt to blockade the studio with hostage-taking.
“It is dangerous to start a hostage crisis that will be created for all the people in the RTS building. Anyone who does this should not expect the RTS to open up space for him to promote his violent ideas,” the statement said.
