Serbian Maidan activists gather a rally on the anniversary of the capture of Belgrade by the Nazis
Scheduled for April 13, a large-scale rally of Serbian Maidan activists in Belgrade, to which they plan to bring all their followers from the province, actually coincides with the anniversary of the capture of the Serbian capital by the Nazis.
Belgrade Mayor Goran Vesic stated this in an interview with the Prva TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The day they chose for demonstrations, April 13, is really scandalous. It was the day Hitler captured Belgrade in 1941. I can't expect anything from the fascist Boško Obradovic other than celebrating this day,” said Vesić.
However, this date is not entirely correct. Historians of the N1 TV channel explain that the Nazis entered Belgrade the day before, April 12, 1941.
“April 12, German troops advanced to Belgrade in the afternoon across the Danube. It was a small group under the command of Lieutenant Kilgerberg. At about 18 pm, the city capitulated,” said historian Boyan Dimitrievich.
Oppositionist Obradovic himself, in response to criticism of the authorities, assures that demonstrations, not celebrations, are planned for April 13.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić commented on the actions of the opposition, drawing attention to yesterday's attempt by Maidan activists to break into the building of the Belgrade parliament, when two elderly women became ill during a confrontation with employees of the institution.
Vučić assured that the authorities were in control of the situation and urged the citizens of Serbia not to worry about "the fascist invasion of Boško Obradovic and his supporters in the Belgrade City Parliament."
Meanwhile, tomorrow, in the capital of Serbia, another action of the opposition will take place - they are going to picket in front of the nationwide Pink TV channel to express dissatisfaction with the refusal of TV journalists to support the Maidan activists.
Bearing in mind that a similar demonstration at the TV channel a few weeks ago resulted in the storming of the studio, the media company has already addressed more than 130 international organizations with a letter urging them to condemn the pressure of radicals on the journalistic team.
