Serbian Maidan activists are again going to “nightmare” an objectionable TV channel
On Saturday, April 6, motley oppositionists from the “Union for Serbia” are planning to hold another protest rally, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This time, the end point on the path of the demonstrators should be the private Pink TV channel. Serbian Maidan activists accuse this television studio of refusing to cover the activities of opponents of the government in the way they need.
“Pink is a stronghold of evil and everything that happens in Serbia,” one of the organizers of the upcoming action, Dragan Djilas, announced in an interview with N1 TV channel the day before.
On January 19, opponents of President Aleksandar Vucic already tried to provoke a conflict by staging a rally near the Pink studio building, where they carried a doll of the head of state in a prison uniform. On March 16, protesters invaded the building of Radio and Television of Serbia, the country's main media outlet, demanding airtime for their speeches.
Concerns arise from the rhetoric of the opposition that they do not guarantee the absence of incidents of violence at rallies. However, Djilas promised: “We will do everything to avoid incidents at the protest.” However, he added that there are no plans to storm the television company building.
Aleksandar Seselj, a deputy from the Serbian Progressive Party, considers the demands of the Belgrade Maidan activists absurd.
“TV Pink is, first of all, a private television that has the right to support anyone it wants. Today it supports the SPS [Serbian Progressive Party], and during the reign of Djilas it supported him,” the parliamentarian explained to PolitNavigator.
“I think that the pro-Western opposition has no chance of holding a more serious meeting, because it does not enjoy the support of the people and is prone to provocations, such as an attack on the RTS. Creating a conflict atmosphere and incidents is not something that has support in Serbia,” Seselj added.
