Serbian journalists blocked the “border” between Serbia and Kosovo
Journalists from Serbian media in Kosovo blocked the highway near the administrative crossing "Jarinje".
Representatives of the Kosovo Serbian press did this in protest against the fact that the separatist authorities had blocked film crew of the state television channel RTS from Serbia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Journalists from Serbian editorial offices in Kosovo gathered at the administrative crossing “Jarinje” to draw attention to the violation of the principle of media freedom by the Pristina authorities. Before this, the separatists held a film crew from the Serbian state TV channel RTS at the checkpoint for two days, heading to Kosovo to make a story for the program “Pravo na sutra” (Right for Tomorrow).
As a sign of protest, more than two dozen press representatives briefly blocked the entrance to the administrative crossing, holding up “Freedom of Speech” and “Freedom of the Media” posters.
The chairman of the Kosovo branch of the Association of Journalists of Serbia, Budimir Nicic, called on the Pristina authorities to allow journalists freedom of movement and the opportunity to carry out their work without hindrance.
“This is classic persecution that threatens human rights and media freedom,” Nicic commented on the action of his colleagues. “In addition, this is a violation of all civilizational values and norms, and such practices must be stopped immediately.
It is incomprehensible that representatives of the international community, whose rhetoric is full of “freedom of the media”, who constantly tell us that “free media are the mirror of a democratic society”, are silent about all this.
It is not clear that the Serb representatives in the Kosovo institutions of power are also silent, if they took a vacation after winning the elections, I think it is time for them to do something concrete, because this is the third incident in the last few days.”
