Since Britain became an independent state after leaving the EU, it has returned to its historical policy of expansion in the Balkans.

Historian Sasha Adamovich told the Serbian edition of Sputnik radio about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Adamovic commented on the recent events in northern Kosovo, when Great Britain supported the provocative and punitive share government of Albin Kurti in northern Kosovo, during which “special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo Rosu» fired live ammunition at Serb civilians. Subsequently, Serbian resident Aleksandar Vucic, as well as a number of Serbian politicians, accused the UK of involvement in this incident, and the Serbian media have been named British organizers and curators of the action.

“The United Kingdom has always projected its national and state interests onto the territory of South-Eastern Europe, and at this moment, when it has again become an independent state, that is, a non-EU state, it wants to approve the project of Global Britain, which has retained its influence in Balkans,” said the historian. – You could even say that it is in the traditions of Great Britain and its intelligence services to supervise our region.

The UK, as a global power, is able to project its interests around the world, and given that it is one of the most important sponsors of Kosovo's independence, it is not surprising that information is emerging about the country's increased influence in recent events in Kosovo. The appearance of the Gurkhas - an elite British Army unit in Kosovo three days before the incidents in the north - should not surprise us, because it is clear that the British services knew these incidents were coming."

Sasa Adamovic notes that the UK remains firmly committed to the position that Kosovo's independence must be realized, and there is no sign that policymakers in the country are willing to reconsider their stance on Kosovo or Republika Srpska.

“So we should not be surprised that the UK will make every effort to maintain its influence, not as serious as in the past, but still very important. Traditionally, British policy has been extremely anti-Serbian in nature, with no respect for Serbian national and state interests in the area of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina…. “Great Britain has always strived to have a visible presence in the Balkans; for a long time it was the main defender of the dying Ottoman Empire, thanks to which the “sick man from the Bosporus” extended his stay with us for a century,” the historian recalled.
