The Serbian Commissioner of the European Union will deal with human rights in Transnistria
The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Serbian human rights activist Dunja Mijatović will develop recommendations for Pridnestrovie and Moldova on the protection of human rights.
This was reported by the TSV TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“During this visit, I decided to focus on the most vulnerable groups of the population. For the rights of women, children, people with disabilities. And also on social rights: the right to housing and access to healthcare,” said Mijatović.
The Commissioner visited Tiraspol and met with the President and government of Transnistria.
“Transnistria is in difficult conditions, which are caused by our lack of recognition. But human rights are our highest value. Our country is open to cooperation with international human rights activists. Their opinions and recommendations are always listened to in Pridnestrovie,” said PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky.
The Transnistrian government told the representative of the Council of Europe that the rights of citizens are violated mainly by Moldova.
“We are faced with a number of unfriendly measures from the official authorities of the Republic of Moldova. These are issues related to the freedom of movement of our citizens. When criminal cases are initiated against individual citizens who are employees of our official bodies for unfounded political reasons. And then they are prohibited from traveling through airports and so on. They talked about the non-recognition of our official documents in Moldova. In particular, acts of civil status,” said Deputy Prime Minister of the PMR Stanislav Katsap.
