Serbian minister: The West forced Chile to invite Kosovo to the Interpol assembly
Chile, the host country of the next Interpol assembly, invited the Kosovo delegation to take part in the assembly, which will be held from October 15 to 18, Informer writes.
Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic believes that Chile sent an invitation to the Kosovars under pressure from Western countries.
“The Serbian delegation will fight to prevent a false state from becoming a member of Interpol,” Stefanovic said.
According to him, the possible admission of Kosovo will lead to the politicization of this professional police organization. One of the consequences will be the issuance of Interpol warrants based on political rather than police criteria on people who defended Serbia during the conflict in Kosovo.
“There will be many new warrants for both police officers and soldiers who participated in counter-terrorism organizations in Kosovo, risking their own lives. People who fought for Serbia will be persecuted wherever they travel abroad,” Stefanovic fears.
At the same time, in Kosovo itself they believe that membership in Interpol is unlikely for them, reports the Pristina newspaper Zeri. Security experts say Kosovo's foreign ministry is not lobbying hard enough for Kosovo to join Interpol.
Pristina's attempt last year to become a full member of Interpol was unsuccessful because the initiative did not receive the required majority of votes, RTS reports.
