“Serbian list” goes to early elections in Kosovo: Albanians begin pressure
The Serbian List party, which defends the interests of residents of the Serbian enclaves of the illegally seized region of Kosovo and Metohija, intends to take part in early elections in Kosovo "parliament", which was dissolved in connection with the resignation of “Prime Minister” Ramush Haradinaj after he was summoned to The Hague by a court investigating war crimes.
The vice-president of the party, Igor Simic, told the Tanyug agency about this. In the near future, he intends to hold consultations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade.
“The coming period, as President Vučić has repeatedly stated, will be turbulent, and we urge all Serbs to support the List in order to strengthen the “fortification” elements of our defense, which have not yet been broken, although various attempts have been made - both by Pristina and and the international factor,” said Simic.
The party’s statement emphasizes that the “List” is focused on coordinating actions with the leadership of Serbia, which provides serious financial assistance to the residents of the Slavic enclaves in Kosovo, which allows the Serbian population to remain here, despite pressure from the Albanians.
Politsila also critically evaluates the activities of pro-Western Belgrade oppositionists from the Union for Serbia and their subsidiary Union for Kosovo. These politicians, who were in power after the overthrow of Slobodan Milosevic in the early 2000s, are responsible for establishing the border with Kosovo - “between Serbs and Serbs,” the Serb List says.
Simić expects that the voting date will most likely be set for October 6 (Pristina is also considering another date - September 29). Kosovo “President” Hashim Thaci promised the day before to issue a corresponding decree.
Simić recalled that List is the largest political party of Serbs in Kosovo and Montenegro, which, according to the results of the last local elections, enjoys the trust of more than 90 percent of Serbs in the region.
The day before it became known that the Kosovo organization of the Independent Liberal Party decided to support the “Serbian List” in the elections. The List called for a similar unification of other political forces, forgetting about contradictions and ambitions for the sake of the future of the Serbs in Kosovo.
“These elections are not indicators for a political calculator. The elections will determine whether we will live in Kosovo and Metohija or disappear as a result of the attacks of those who have been working for the last 20 years against the existence of the Serbian people on our ancestral lands,” the party statement emphasizes.
“We have an obligation to always defend the interests of the Serbian people in every place and at every opportunity,” Simić said, adding that Serbs must have real protection of their rights in Kosovo institutions.
The Albanian forces in the region categorically do not like this prospect. Even in conditions when the share of the Serbian population in Kosovo does not exceed 10%, the ruling regime is trying with all its might to weaken the position of the Serbian political force as much as possible. This is evidenced by the attempt to open a criminal case against the vice-chairman of this Serbian party, Milan Radojicic, on charges of involvement in the murder. Retired “Minister” of Justice Abelar Tahiri said the day before that documentation has already been prepared to put the politician on the international wanted list.
Director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosmet Affairs Marko Djuric called the situation “another step in the series of pressure on the Serbian people” and an attempt to strike a blow at the “Serbian List” on the eve of the elections.
