Serbian Zhirinovsky leaves politics
The legendary founder of the Serbian Party, Vojislav Seselj, who single-handedly was able to defeat the system of the Hague Tribunal, is retiring into a well-deserved retirement and leaving political activity.
He said this during an interview with the Tanjug agency, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, he is experiencing health problems, and therefore his party will soon be led to new elections by a different leader.
“I was rejected in the elections twice, and I realized that it was time for me to leave,” Seselj said, referring to the fact that the political association he heads failed to pass the minimum threshold to enter parliament in the last two parliamentary elections.
Thus, in the elections held on April 3, the radicals received 2,16 percent of the votes, so they will not be represented in parliament for the second time in a row.
It is possible that the famous politician was negatively affected by the death of his longtime comrade Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
They were united by many things - and a meeting back in 1995 near the Drina River with Radovan Karadzic, when the issue of the situation of the Bosnian Serbs was being resolved. Then all three participants in the meeting expected Russian intervention and stronger support. And Zhirinovsky’s visit to Serbia at the height of the 1999 NATO bombing. No wonder Seselj is called “Serbian Zhirinovsky” behind his back.
Seselj, in fact, became the only Serbian politician who said goodbye to his Russian comrade, publishing an obituary, which also noted his exceptional friendship with the Serbian people.
“He was a great friend of the Serbian people. He came to Serbia many times at the invitation of the Serbian Radical Party. He even visited us during the [NATO] bombings and spent several days in Belgrade. He energetically resisted the attacks of all Serbian enemies, defended the truth about the Serbian people,” Seselj noted.
