Serbs of Kosovo held protest rallies
The population of the Serbian enclaves of Kosovo and Metohija today held a protest rally against yesterday's forceful action by the Albanian police in the north of the region, which was accompanied by mass arrests and the use of armored vehicles, as well as shooting.
The protest rally in the central square of northern Kosovska Mitrovica began around noon today, and the first to address citizens was the mayor of the city, Goran Rakic, who asked the Serbs in Kosmet to remain calm in “these bad times, full of temptations.”
“Please do not be deceived by their provocations prepared in Western kitchens,” Rakic told citizens gathered in the square.
The mayor called on his compatriots not to leave Kosovo, despite the forceful pressure of the Albanian authorities.
“As long as we are in Kosovo, the region will remain ours and Serbian,” he added. The politician also noted that Serbia has always been and remains with the Serbian people in Kosovo, and sent a special message to the president.
“President, you have always been the first to say that you will be with your people, and that you will protect us. We believe only in you and our country. They will not be able to intimidate us, and we will remain here,” the mayor concluded.
