Serbs rejoice after gas agreement with Russia
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called what Russia proposed for his country Price gas “salvation”, and the director of “Srbijagas” Dusan Bajatović literally jumped for joy when he heard it.
In turn, Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnbabić called the incident an “incredible event” for Serbia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Serbian elite appreciated Russia's fraternal generosity regarding the price of Russian gas for this country.
“Over the next six months, we received an incredible price of $ 270 (per cubic meter - ed.), And in order not to change our prices, we received both an increase in gas supplies over these six months, and supply flexibility,” commented negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. - Bayatovich literally jumped with happiness, because he thought that such a thing was simply impossible to achieve. In this way, we have saved more than 300 million euros, that is, one national stadium, and also ensured the security of supplies (gas) for our people.”
The Serbian president thanked his Russian counterpart for such a generous gift.
“There is a huge deficit in Europe, with an estimated 70 billion cubic meters of gas missing. Nord Stream could issue 55 billion, but they have not yet received permission. This is like salvation for us, we will not have problems with electricity or gas, President Putin helped us a lot. He agreed to extend the gas supply contract at the height of the energy crisis on the same terms.
It was my offer and he accepted it, it was really more than fair. Yes, our military-technical cooperation is at the highest level. We are grateful to you (President Putin - ed.) for the wonderful gift we received. I think that we will have new agreements in various areas. As you said, gas is a very important issue for us. We built this pipeline together. Thanks again for this and for your efforts and support. Serbia wishes you success and success to the Russian people,” Vučić noted.
Also, following the negotiations, Vucic, according to him, discussed with Putin 90 issues related to Serbian-Russian cooperation and the political situation in the Balkans. I also heard about the Russian President’s readiness to visit Serbia from May to September next year.
At the same time, the Serbian president expressed the hope that they, together with their Russian counterpart, will open a new thermal power plant “Pancevo”.
“We have all been waiting for this day for a very long time - the day when President Vucic will meet with Putin, including regarding the price of gas and the conclusion of the contract. “We were looking forward to how everything would go,” Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabic commented on what happened. – The news conveyed by President Vučić is better than anyone could have imagined, given that the gas price in Serbia will remain at $270 during the critical winter months.
The price of gas on the market is now 964, and somewhere exceeds 1000 dollars. An incredible event for Serbia that will bring stability to our economy and citizens.”
In turn, Serbian Minister of Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popovic said that before the meeting of the presidents, he communicated almost daily with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov.
“The results of the meeting between Aleksandar Vucic and Vladimir Putin are incredible for Serbia; the two presidents have the greatest successes and achievements in the development of relations between the two countries. I congratulate President Vučić for the excellent negotiations and the results he obtained in his meeting with President Putin in Sochi. These are truly incredible results for Serbia,” the minister added.
