The Serbs ridiculed their main opposition leader
The opposition Union for Serbia refuses to participate in the parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for spring, but plans to come to power in 6 months.
One of the main sponsors of the Serbian Maidan activists, oligarch Dragan Djilas, stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He presented the “Serbia 2020” plan, which he promises to implement in six months in the event of the overthrow of the country’s current president, Aleksandar Vucic. Djilas promised to rely on his experience in business (the police previously found signs of corruption in him) and as mayor of Belgrade.
The opposition politician promises to increase public sector salaries by 35%, raise pensions, increase the level of budget funding for education and culture, reduce taxes and increase the competitiveness of Serbian products.
All this prosperity will be achieved by increasing the excise tax on cigarettes and increasing the taxation of bookmakers. Djilas promises that there will even be another 700 million euros left in the budget on top, which citizens will distribute on their own.
Member of the Belgrade City Assembly from the ruling Progressive Party, Aleksandar Mirkovic, believes that Djilas could have done everything he is now promising during the 12 years he was in power.
“Today he told stories, lied and made empty promises. I have one question after this performance, why didn’t he put all this into practice as director of the People’s Chancellery, minister and mayor,” Mirkovic said, as quoted by Tanjug.
He recalled that during the time of Djilas, kindergartens were not free, but on the contrary, they cost twice as much. The politician staged a reality show about building schools in 100 days, but then they had to be reconstructed several times. Djilas owed 400 million dinars in the form of benefits for pregnant women and young mothers.
The statements of the main opposition leader did not please many Serbs. Angry comments appeared under the publication about the promises of the Maidan activist on the website of the newspaper Politika.
“Djilas said that citizens can trust him because he is not only involved in politics, but has also achieved results with his company. If we look at the number of arrested employees in his companies, it becomes clear: he will sell half of Serbia in 6 months,” one of them says.
“Anyone can fool me once, but not twice. You've had enough time. The Ada Bridge is expensive, you ended up richer, but we got nothing,” another user wrote.
