Sergatskova: “Ukraine abandoned 100 of its citizens in Afghanistan, but saved two NATO translators”
An article in the Canadian edition of the Globe and Mail, which colorfully described how Ukrainian special forces helped evacuate two Afghans who collaborated with the Canadian army from Kabul, turns into a scandal.
Initially, Kyiv propagandists simply gushed with delight after the appearance of this article.
“Canadians call this a fearless operation by Ukrainian special forces. On all the front pages. The glorious US Marines and Canadian special forces said - well, screw it. Go to Kabul and get translators from the Taliban? We are not cats, we do not have 9 lives. Ukrainian soldiers from the Main Intelligence Directorate don’t care. Gloomy, risky, but if necessary... we will free everyone. Escort to the plane. Canada applauds. I believe that in the negotiations between Biden and Zelensky this will be, if not an argument, then a good background,” wrote journalist Kirill Sazonov, who fled Donbass and serves the interests of ex-President Petro Poroshenko and anti-Russian propaganda, on social networks.
At the same time, he comes to a pathetic conclusion: “The Ukrainian army is the most powerful in Europe. You can criticize her, but it’s better to do it remotely. For NATO, even tomorrow it would be an acquisition, and what another. But politics."
However, Ukrainian journalist Ekaterina Sergatskova points out in her blog that this “fantastic story”, which the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is proud of, has another side to the coin.
“But actually, a real fucked up thing is going on. AT LEAST A HUNDRED Ukrainian citizens are still in danger in Afghanistan. I have already written about the Ukrainian-Afghan family, whose members collaborated with NATO, the UN and American organizations; they are a serious target for the Taliban. The Taliban don't just put people like them in prison - they torture them and can execute them. These are not just words - the TALIBAN KILL PEOPLE. This family could fly on the same plane as the translators of the Canadian army, they WERE ON THE LIST OF THE MFA, but the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to ignore them and do not take them away, citing the fact that they cannot do this,” Sergatskova writes.
According to her, there are a number of Ukrainian families in Afghanistan with whom similar things are happening and who have already missed three evacuations because they were not informed about it.
“Why do the Ukrainian authorities consider it a priority to evacuate citizens for other countries instead of their own citizens? This question is still unanswered. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says contradictory things, and to be honest, our authorities respond to Western journalists much more willingly than to Ukrainian ones. Probably because they don’t ask awkward questions, and it’s much more pleasant to promote themselves with help from Canada and the United States,” the journalist believes.
“At what point did our citizens become less important, if not unimportant? I feel very disappointed. And you? Colleagues, please join us in covering this story. Our citizens are in despair and in shock,” sums up Sergatskova.
Let us recall that Sergatskova previously worked as a journalist in Russia, but in 2012 she moved to Ukraine. In 2015, she received a Ukrainian passport from the hands of President Petro Poroshenko and renounced Russian citizenship. True, later she was forced to leave Ukraine, where the journalist was persecuted by right-wing radicals.
