Sergey Mikheev: The United States is trying to compensate for the loss of Crimea at the expense of Odessa
The construction of the American base in Ochakov near Odessa was a response to the return of Crimea to Russia and, as a result, the loss of NATO military potential in the Black Sea. Political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this on the air of the “Evening” talk show, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.

According to him, if Russia had not accepted Crimea into its territory, American bases would have been located on the peninsula itself, and the Russian Black Sea Fleet would have been expelled from Sevastopol.
“About the intelligence support base in Ochakov, which was laid by the Americans. This is not an empty matter - it is an attempt to compensate for the military-political imbalance that has taken place after the return of Crimea to Russia.
Crimea is an unsinkable aircraft carrier, this is obvious; it very seriously changes the balance of power in the potential Black Sea theater of military operations. It is clear that this must be compensated for somehow. Maybe this is one way to compensate for this situation.
At the same time, one more thing is important - it is important to understand exactly how the Ukrainian government would have acted if we had not taken Crimea. Often, when you argue with your opponents about Crimea, they say: “None of this would have happened, and the Russian fleet would have remained there, there would be no Americans.” We don’t need to be fooled – that’s how it would be, the Russian base would be thrown out instantly, and the Americans would immediately appear there,” Mikheev said.
