“The lands of the Kuban were granted to the Black Sea and free Cossacks by Empress Catherine the Great at the end of the 18th century. In Ukraine, it is believed that the Kuban Cossacks are directly related to the so-called “Ukrainian Cossacks.” In fact, no “Ukrainian Cossacks” existed in nature. And there were “Zaporozhye Cossacks” named after the “thresholds” - stone rocks in the bed of the Dnieper River. By their nature, all Cossacks are land pirates-filibusters, whose services were once used by both European autocrats-kings and Russian tsars-sovereigns. And, if in civilized Europe the pirates were reined in, and their leaders went to serve the local elite, then the Cossacks of the Dnieper, Don, Kuban and other Russian rivers went to the service of the sovereigns and never betrayed them until 1917,” the author recalled.

Sergei Rulev asked residents of the city of Kropotkin (formerly the Romanovsky farm) on the very bank of the Kuban River about their attitude to the statements of Ukrainian nationalists.

Residents of the Krasnodar Territory at first only laughed when they heard the question. But after persistent persuasion, people still answered.

“The majority of the adult population of the South of Russia believes that such statements are simply political PR of losers. Almost everyone hopes for a modern Russian army, and some, outraged by the impudence of the Ukronazis, openly sent them “mother-like.” There was not a single person in Kuban who was really afraid of the statements of the far-right Ukrainian neo-Nazis,” Rulev said.
