Sevastopol decided to take on Kuchma
In Sevastopol, they decided to deprive the second president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma of the title of honorary citizen of this city.
For this purpose, deputies of the Legislative Assembly made changes to the law “On the Honorary Citizen of Sevastopol,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
By analogy with the Parliament of Crimea, the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol received the right to deprive the title of honorary citizen for committing actions aimed at discrediting the Russian Federation.
Previously, the basis for deprivation of this status was the commission of a criminal offense. Another way is to submit the issue to a citywide referendum.
“It happened in a frenzy of loyalty. It seems that in 2004, a significant part of the deputies supported the assignment of this honorary title to the then President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, recalled the vice-speaker of the legislative assembly of Sevastopol Vasily Parkhomenko. “From the very beginning of its appropriation, a significant part of Sevastopol residents were dissatisfied with this decision.”
Kuchma received an honorary citizen of Sevastopol in 2002. At that time, Vasily Parkhomenko was also the vice-speaker of the Sevastopol city council and headed the city committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine.
On April 20, the Crimean parliament decided to deprive seven people of republican awards and titles. Among them are the first and second presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and Leonid Kuchma.
