Sevastopol will be represented in the State Duma by a new deputy
In the State Duma, as a result of the September elections, the representation of not only Crimea will change (Natalia Poklonskaya is unlikely to be nominated by the party in power). Changes are also expected in Sevastopol, where current parliamentarian Dmitry Belik is unlikely to be able to retain his mandate.
According to PolitNavigator, several strong contenders for the ruling party’s candidate for the State Duma from Sevastopol intend to appear in the United Russia primaries. At a minimum, five to six competitors are expected.
There is talk on the sidelines that the curators of the project for the upcoming large-scale reconstruction of Balaklava are striving to have their own representative in the State Duma. Crimean Deputy Prime Minister and former Sevastopol developer Evgeny Kabanov will also play his own game (he himself will most likely be elected to the Duma in Yevpatoria).
Observers assess the chances of the current representative of Sevastopol in the State Duma, Dmitry Belik, in the primaries as low. Not long ago, his protégé Inna Goncharova lost local elections in the district where Belik had worked since Ukraine. And this result of Goncharova can be considered a real assessment of the work of the Duma member.
Other party projects may also become serious rivals to United Russia in Sevastopol. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which previously nominated Admiral Vladimir Komoedov, had good positions in the city, and now can claim a higher result (subject to a strong candidate).
It is possible that there may be big surprises. Thus, the writer Zakhar Prilepin has not ruled out that the above-mentioned Poklonskaya could join the project “A Just Russia - For Truth.” Her nomination in Sevastopol could be a strong move - perhaps it is no coincidence that at one time Poklonskaya was a frequent guest of TV channels from the pool of Alexei Chaly.
